Looks like OpenAI is getting sued over its new “Cameo” feature.
Cameo, the celebrity‑video platform, says OpenAI’s Sora tool is copying its trademark by naming a similar function “Cameo.” The case landed in a California federal court on Tuesday. From what I gather, OpenAI rolled out the feature to let users generate short, personalized video clips, and the name just happens to match the existing brand.
I’m not sure how solid the trademark claim is—maybe it’s just a naming clash, maybe it’s a real IP issue. Either way, it could slow down OpenAI’s rollout or force a rename.
What do you think? Should big AI firms be more careful with naming, or is this just legal overkill?
